30-minute criterium (short, fast circuit race)
Rest, active recovery 60-90 minutes
Then:
40-mile criterium (long, fast circuit race)

Warm up 60-75 minutes on bike

40-mile criterium (long, fast circuit race)


Notes:

Ride/Race:
MFT: 10th place in the Masters 50+ criterium. My first race of the season. No expectations other than to stay upright. Then, in the 40-mile race, where the Pro, 1, 2 and 3 categories were combined I hung on for 30 miles before getting dropped, got lapped at 31 miles and pulled from he race. I was cooked. It was a great day.

Ride/Race:
Michael: 17th in the Pro/1/2/3 race, his second race as a Cat 3 with the first being yesterday when he finished 7th in the Winfield Twilight Criterium that was notable for the extreme weather that caused it to be cut short. The best bit for me at the end of today's race was when he rolled up after a cool-down lap and admitted, "Well, I belong here." Meaning he held his own in the new, harder category.


Day-before race prep: stimulating deep recruitment and afterward chasing it with a short, hard sprint.
Keep an eye on competitors around you - the attacks will come from behind, rarely from the front.
